The Maori carvings of Lake Taupo

November 26, 2013 by Zoe Dawes 10 Comments
Swirling in mysterious shapes and beautiful imagery over huge rocks, the Maori carvings of Lake Taupo can only be seen by boat and were created to be viewed from the water.  We’d dropped anchor a few metres away and people leapt off the yacht into the dark green depths and swimming over...

5 Things to Do in Darwin, Northern Territory in Australia

September 1, 2013 by Zoe Dawes 10 Comments
On my first visit to Australia, to see glorious Uluru and quirky Alice Springs, I stayed in Darwin, capital city of the Northern Territory.  It's a laid-back port with a steamy sub-tropical climate, some very quirky sights and rather unprepossessing architecture.  It was badly bombed in WWII and on Christmas...

November 10, 2012 by Zoe Dawes 11 Comments
Heat enveloped us, forcing its way through our lightweight clothing, beating down onto a wide variety of headgear as the sun seared its way across the sky, shimmering through the bush on its daily journey across the Australian outback.  Brittle twigs snapped and distant scuttlings broke the hot silence as...

There’s a hot debate these days about getting into the sea to go swimming with dolphins. Some say it is wrong, that these intelligent mammals should be left alone.  Others say they love us playing with them and that it does no harm.  Well, if you are going to do it then one...

The gorgeous colour of the burn is probably caused by the peat in the area 🧡 Whatever the cause, after heavy rainfall, it’s a glorious sight tumbling over the rocks as it makes its way down to the sea at Rascarrel Bay on the Galloway coast 🤗
