An unearthly cry rings out through the streets and earthlings flee as the enormous creature sweeps its prehistoric gaze across the crowds. It stalks through the scattering people, searching out its prey. Two more monsters join it and they perform some kind of weird, spookily hypnotic dance – a mating ritual possibly? Suddenly one spies an innocent bystander and bends its sinuous neck towards her, its huge, vicious beak pecking at her head. “Oh my God” she shrieks and tried to hide. The Sauruses are here – and they’re hungry …
Yes, Showzam! is back in town, bringing its very own quirky chaos and mayhem to the streets of this popular seaside resort and laughter to the historic Winter Gardens. This brilliant festival of circus, magic and variety shows has become a regular fixture during the February half-term school holiday. Well-known performers, street artists and innovative acts are showcased throughout Blackpool, including the menacingly magical Sauruses, created by Close Act, from the Netherlands.
There is something primal about these enormous beasts, with their curved beaks, ridged necks and bird-like bodies and curvaceous tails. Surprisingly agile on dainty feet, they seek out unsuspecting prey, occasionally nuzzling and always emitting piercing, haunting cries.
If you miss the festival, you can see the Sauruses on the prowl here – if your nerves can stand it!
