Tanzania is a vast country with so much to offer that the choice can sometimes be overwhelming. You want to see it all but the key is not to overdo it then you don’t really explore any safari area properly. There are many camps which compliment each other perfectly and also offer discounts when you combine the two for your own luxury Tanzania safari.
Here is the Luxury Safari Company’s top 3 Tanzania Safari combinations.

Greystoke Mahale Safari Camp
1 Manyara Ranch + Serengeti Safari Camp = Tanzania’s Northern Circuit (Manyara, Ngorongoro + Serengeti)

Manyara Ranch
This is the luxury Northern circuit in style, with none of the touristy things which everyone else has done and all of the off-the-beaten-track exclusivity which Tanzania safaris are all about. Start at Manyara Ranch for four nights. You’ll spend most of your time riding, walking or sitting in hides, as well as day and night drives. From here you can also head into Lake Manyara National Park, Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater. However, we tend to find clients only want to do that for half a day before returning to the remote wilderness of their private concession, which has abundant game.

After a short light aircraft flight follow this with four nights at Serengeti Safari Camp (who have a ‘stay four – pay three’ offer most of the year). This luxurious tented camp moves to follow the Wildebeest Migration so you’ll always be in the thick of the action. The camp staff are so friendly you’ll never want to leave.

Serengeti Safari Camp
2 Chada Katavi + Greystoke Mahale = Tanzania’s Western Circuit (Katavi & Mahale)

Chada Katavi Camp
This is perhaps one of the most unique, quirky, away-from-it-all options in all of Africa. Nothing can compare to what you’ll experience on this safari. Both camps offer free nights at certain times of year. Start with Chada, a small intimate and romantic luxury tented camp set in a wild and remote corner of this wild and remote park.

Chada Katavi Nomad Camp
You will be staggered by the sheer volume of game here, and again you will not see another soul. Follow this with Greystoke Mahale, the only place in Africa you can track and see chimpanzees. The lodge is small and personal and you will send this safari as part of the family.

3 Kigelia + Sand Rivers Selous = Tanzania’s Southern Circuit (Ruaha & Selous)
This circuit is seriously remote and offers a chance to see abundant wildlife and barely another vehicle or tourist. The areas are very interesting with varying topography and lots to see and do. Kigelia is a friendly and intimate safari camp in a secluded location that often has elephants passing happily through the camp.

Sand Rivers Selous Safari Ca,p
Sand Rivers Selous is Tanzania’s most magical camp by far and offers guests a real chance to escape and experience a little piece of safari heaven, which includes boating on the Rufiji River and fly camping.

Excellent idea to combine a couple of places – makes it just a wee bit easier to decide which of these lovely safari options to choose.
Excellent idea to combine a couple of places – all of them look lovely!
I usually think of Safari as people in a caged vehicle watching animals roaming around. Thanks for sharing this that you can also enjoy being inside safari camps with elephants passing by.
Looks great doesn’t it. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to see wildlife so near to your tent (though wouldn’t want them visiting!)
Read the article, Zoe. Brought back great memories of some of my African safari experiences. Until I went to Tanzania, I didn’t know tents could be so luxurious. Great people, great food, loads of animals.
How lucky you were to have experienced this for real. Bet you’ve got some great tales to tell! One day I’d love to go there and stay in one of these gorgeous tents …
