Tulips and Grape Hyacinths
Tulips from Amsterdam
When it’s Spring again I’ll bring again
Tulips from Amsterdam
With a heart that’s true I’ll give to you
Tulips from Amsterdam
A popular song in the 1950s and 60s, Tulips from Amsterdam evokes springtime in Holland, with its fields of spring bulbs spreading colour and scent throughout the Dutch countryside. A visit to world-famous Keukenhof Gardens is everything an flower-lover could wish for. I went a few years ago and look forward to returning. The floral exhibitions and planting are splendid; each year there is a different theme, around which creative displays and artworks are show-cased.
Across many hectares are not just tulips from Amsterdam but every spring plantern you can imagine, flowering in colourful profusion. Surrounded by striated bulb fields, the heady scent of hyacinths, the decadent smell of lilies, the delicate aroma of narcissi envelops you in a sensual bouquet of delight …

Scent from Lily Exhibition almost overpowering, the blooms each a poem of perfection.

You can read more about my visit to Keukenhof Gardens here. I travelled to Holland with Stena Ferries.

Absolutely magnificent. That’s a must see on my travel list for next year. The Dutch know how to make the best of thse colorful flowers, and to thaink that they are native from Turkey. It’s in fact their national flower.
Spring is such a beautiful, hopeful season and I just love seeing the first crocuses and daffodils brightening up our days. If you can’t visit Keukenhof, get a big bunch of tulips, put them in a vase and enjoy their colourful exhuberance 🙂
You’d love Keukenhof Inka – it’s like a growing art gallery and the tulips are a top attraction for sure. However, what surprised me was how many other flowers there are and the Exhibition Halls have the most amazing creative displays. Hope you get there one day 🙂
Look good – we should get some more tulips – so many different colours and shapes. What on earth are those figures in the lake? Very quirky!
There are an amzing amount of different tulips on display John. I love the simple ones and also the hybrid ‘stripey’ ones that are reminiscent of the ‘Semper Augustus’ that caused such a furore with the Dutch traders in the 17thc. What an amazing explosion of colour – a must see for everyone once in their lifetime.
You’re so right Linzi – one of the most impressive and colourful floral gardens anywhere in the world 🙂
